Justice

Oil on Canvas: (76″ x 100″). From the “American Trilogy” of paintings of Justice, Guardian Angel, and Liberty. “… One Nation, under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice fo all.” The American Trilogy is Coyle’s response to those that would change the very faith and fabric on which our country was founded. These paintings represent the three basic elements and strengths of our country; God, Liberty, and Justice. Without these elements, we are but a Society lost.
Justice: The Protector of our way of life. At this time, in our society, we must remove the blindfolds and open our eyes to how the global changes have endangered our freedoms. Justice must stand strong, tall and detereminded in the face of those that would change us. In the portrayeal, she has removed her blindfold as to see the obstacles in front of her. she carries a sword to defend her stance and is dressed in blue, which symbolizes truth and justice. (6″4″ x 8’4″)
*($33,000 each separately, or $25,000 each for the whole trilogy).

Guardian Angel: A symbol of our hope and representative of one’s personal faith. The Guardian Angel gave strength and courage to our forefathers to succeed from tryranny and these beliefs continue to give us guidance, hope and determination to fulfill our basic human rights and to honor our legacy. (6″4″ x 8’4″)

Liberty

Oil on Canvas: (76″ x 100″). From the “American Trilogy” of paintings of Justice, Guardian Angel, and Liberty. “… One Nation, under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice fo all.” The American Trilogy is Coyle’s response to those that would change the very faith and fabric on which our country was founded. These paintings represent the three basic elements and strengths of our country; God, Liberty, and Justice. Without these elements, we are but a Society lost.
Liberty: The constant vigilance to sustain our liberty is a fact that we all understand. In this portrayal, Libery carries her torch high, mounted on a staff so that she may defend herself to those that would try to pull her down. Her garment is red to symbolize the depth of passion that all American’s feel, believe, and trust. (6″4″ x 8’4″).

American Dream

Watercolor on Textured Board (Varnished):
(30″ x 25″). Quote from “The Kennett Paper,” June 14-20, 2001; pg. A14; R. B. Strauss, “Local Painter Shines at Artworks:”

“… Then there is the show stopper, “The American Dream.” Put simply, this painting deserves to be in museum. A most stunning achievement, this is a powerful character study that transcends any simple take on post modernism. Instead, it forges a deep bond with whoever see it. Though “witness” is a far better word that just ‘see.”

“Featuring a palette limited by necessity, this painting is filled with darkness that won’t quit. Still, there is an inner light here, which is an offering by the artist to alleviate what he has depicted. The painting features a subway car that must be near the end of the line, for there is only a handful of people on it. These people look dog-tired so they must be all going home from a long and hard day’s work.

“The light here is part and parcel of the piece, for the work is a watercolor that has been coated with a clear varnish as the source of this light, a brilliant patina that lends each subject here an angelic grace. One has to go all the way back to the Ashcan School to find a more powerful take on what it means to be a member of the working class. That the subway car is covered with the graffiti sets the scene in the present, a time when all those on board have found that the American Dream has perhaps bypassed them.”

“On a technical level also, the painting is stunning. Though the whole scene is painted in a dreamlike, Impressionistic manner, it exudes sweat and stench and a cramped view though the car is somewhat empty. Yet, Coyle lends his people a quiet peace…”

[Bellevue Hall, 800 Carr Road, Bellevue State Park, Wilmington, Delaware. Once the family home of the William du Ponts, Bellevue Hall is gracefully set amidst hundreds of acres of parkland and surrounded by lovely formal gardens. William H. du Pont, Jr., transformed the mansion from a Gothic Revival castle into a replica of President James Madison’s home, Montpelier. Mr. du Pont surrounded his home with the finest facilities; tennis courts, equestrian stables, gardens, and a picturesque pond amid woodlands and fields overlooking the Delaware River. Originally acquired by the State of Delaware in 1976, the park now covers 328 acres.]
